The Functional MRI Club Nederland is an informal organisation of researchers in the field of fMRI. Its inception in 1999 was the result of conversations between Serge Rombouts (of the Free University of Amsterdam) and me (of the Utrecht University) about how little attention fMRI received in the dutch neuroscience scene. It became clear that scientists from other dutch universities were getting interested, and that fMRI programs were being initiated here and there. It seemed a logical and wise thing to bring scientists together on a regular basis to exchange ideas and study results, and to promote fMRI expertise by organising presentations and workshops. Two annual meetings have taken place now, and this will continue.
Who for?
The meetings are open to anyone who is interested in fMRI. To organize things a bit, one representative is appointed for each university, who participates in organizing meetings and distributing information (see "sites" for their names). The meetings are geared towards exchanging ideas and experiences, and to introducing the world of fMRI to novices including students and scientists. To participate, all one has to do is send an email to
with a request to be added to the emaillist. Information on meetings is then sent to your emailaddress.
What does FCN do?
We organize the annual meetings. We maintain this website (as best we can), which contains info on things such as: fMRI research projects (organized by site), courses planned by FCN or others, recommended written material on fMRI, job offerings, national and international meetings on fMRI or other neuroimaging techniques and on neuroscience in general, interesting other websites.
What can you do?
You can browse through this website, and either be awed, amused or disappointed. You can also decide to hook up to the mailinglist and/or to the newsgroup. If you feel sorry for the looks and organisation of this website, and feel that you have better ideas, you are encouraged to contact the webmasters at
